Are You Using Your Power Responsibly?

As a leader, you have a disproportionate influence on the "culture" (or vibe) of your workgroup.
With power comes responsibility!
No matter who you are, your actions send subtle cues to those around you about what is important or unimportant, and what you value and don't value.
But when you are in a position of authority, those actions carry extra weight.
For example, when a co-worker jumps in and negates your suggestion, saying, "we've tried that before and it didn't work," you may get the message that the co-worker doesn't value your idea.
But when your boss does the same thing, you may also discern that new ideas are not welcome and that you, as the new person, should probably keep your ideas to yourself and just go with the flow.
You can see how this leadership behavior will (at least) dampen innovation, and will also likely contribute to a culture of disengagement.
How you show up as a leader, matters!
But keeping these lessons about leadership front and center can be a challenge.
That's where we come in!
Leaders (formal and informal) benefit from the support and encouragement, of a tribe of other leaders who are also committed to improvement. Am I right?
We're making it easy for you to connect with that tribe through the Leadership Book Club!
Let's READ TOGETHER!
It's FREE to join!
You'll be invited to participate in our free lunch-n-learn conversations about interesting leadership books!
- Read or don't read... either is fine. You'll still benefit from the conversation.
